RFK-Network Quarterly Training (QT)

Lagos Nigeria, June 18, 2011

The second Records and Information Management Awareness Foundation Knowledge Network (RFK-Network) quarterly training was held on June 18th 2011 with the theme ‘Manging public records’ at the Light Plaza, Association Avenue in Ilupeju, Lagos.

The welcome address and introductions of attendees were carried out by the President of the foundation; Mr. Oyedokun A. Oyewole.

A presentation on "Artificial Intelligence in Data Archiving, Storage and Retrieval" was delivered by Mr. Iziren Emmanuel, MD/CEO of Precision Software Incorporation. The main theme for the Quarter training "Managing Public records" was presented by the Deputy Director, Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technoloy, Ms Yinka Fashola, who is also a member of the RIMA Foundation Advisory Board.

During the product presentation session, MZ Consulting , a consultancy firm based in Lagos, Nigeria, presented an EDMS application software called e-Drawer. The presentation was made by the Managing Director, Mr. Zubairu.

 

The last activity for the day was the official induction of new RFK-Network Members. A total of five (5) new professional members and (2) corporate members were inducted. The next quarterly training is scheduled for 3rd September, 2011 at the Nigerian Union of Teachers building.

Maiden International Archives Day Celebrated in Nigeria

Archivists, archival institutions and allied Information Management professionals in Nigeria joined the rest of the world in celebrating the International Archives Day on June 9, 2011 to re-emphasize the central role of effective records keeping and archives as collective memory. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


The maiden edition of the Archives Day in Nigeria was organized as a partnership programme by the trio of the Records and Information Management Awareness [RIMA] Foundation, Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau [LASRAB], and Department of National Archives [DNA] .

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


The International Archives Day is a day declared by the International Council on Archives [ICA] for the global community to celebrate and highlight the importance of records and archives in human development. The theme for 2011 is ‘The Place of Records and Archives in the Emerging World of Business and ICT Convergence’ to be delivered by Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, the immediate past Lagos State Commissioner for Science and Technology. Other expected speakers and facilitators at the event are Mrs. Grace Oyebo, Head of Documents Department, (First Bank of Nigeria), Dr. Bola Fajemirokun, Director, Development Initiatives Network (DIN) and Mr. H. Larry Eiring, CRM, FAI, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, The ARMA International Educational Foundation, USA, who gave the international perspective on the topic through a pre-recorded telecast. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


According to the Chairman of the Organising Committee and President of RIMA Foundation, Mr. Oyewole Oyedokun, archival institutions are cornerstone of a democratic society and one of the nation’s information and knowledge management for fuelling new ideas and innovation as guardian of the societal memory. The memorable event also featured exhibitions by some prominent solutions providers in the country among which were DocuData Custodian, Templeton Business Consulting, Rabboni Tech Ltd, IQSS, Xerox Nigeria, Petrodata Services Limited.

Mr. Eiring Larry who recently returned from a trip to Nigeria expressed his views about his visit and interaction and while in the country. The former ARMA President who facilitated professional development training programmes organised by RIMA Foundation said “I have completed a very important work here in Nigeria. I am incredibly impressed with the Nigerian people. They are determined for success and to become a powerful force in global business and society. Every Nigerian should be proud of where they have come from and where they are going. The future of the world, I believe, rests with the empowerment of the determined people of Africa.”    

 

 

 

He also reiterated his resolve to continue to support the development of the RIM industry in the continent and promised to repeat his visit in a not to far future.

RFK-Network Quarterly Training (QT)

Lagos Nigeria, March 7, 2011

The first Records and Information Management Awareness Foundation Knowledge Network (RFK-Network) quarterly training was held on March 5TH 2011 with the theme ‘Record and Information Management in the Financial Sectors’ at the Nigeria Union of Teachers Secretariat in Ilupeju, Lagos.
The welcome address and introductions of attendees were carried out by the President of the foundation; Mr. Oyedokun A. Oyewole.

The training commenced with a presentation by Mr. Micaiah Wale, Information System Security at Globacom Limited. He presented on the need for efficiency in record management and security. He also emphasized on the roles played by different agencies responsible for the regulation in the financial sectors of the economy.

At the end of the first session, RIMA President ushered in the second facilitator in person of Mrs. Yemisi Oyebo - Head of Document Management, First Bank Nigeria Plc. She presented slides on Records and Information Management as it applied to the financial sectors and questions were asked at the end of the session.

During the product presentation session, Templeton Consulting, a consultancy firm based in Lagos, Nigeria, presented an EDMS application software called File Store. The Managing Director of Templeton, Mr. Ojo Fusho mentioned a number of services provider by the firm and how they can help different organisations solve their records and information management challenges through their scalable and affordable solutions. Attendees were showed several features provided by File Store. Some of the attendees asked various questions about the software and the appropriate answers were given by the company representative in-charge of the software demonstration.

The last presentation for the day was the RFK-Network presentation, which was presented by the General Manager of the Network Mr. Olaleye Doregos. In attendance was Mr. Salahudeen of SPDC, Port-harcourt. who also  used the opportunity to encourage intending members to join the network and also gave some advice on the need for members to embrace professionalism in their day-to-day activities.

The event ended with a closing remarks followed by event photo sessions. Refreshment and souvenirs were also distributed during the training sessions. A total of 33 delegates attended the quarterly training.

The next quarterly training is scheduled for 18th June, 2011. Venue to be announced later.

RIMA Foundation Advisory Board Update

Yinka Fashola, General Manager/CEO of Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) and sibling of the Lagos State Governor, His Excellency Barrister Babatunde Raji Fashola, recently joined the RIMA Foundation advisory board.

Prior to becoming LASRRA Boss, she worked with the Ministry of Justice in UK between 2003 and 2010.
RIMAW & RIMA Awards are slated for 28th & 29th October, 2011 at the Lagos Sheraton Hotels.

RIMA Foundation 2011 Events and Training Calendar Released.

Lagos Nigeria, January 21, 2011

Going by the determination of the RIMA Foundation in transforming the Records and Information Management Industry in Africa, the Foundation today released the 2011 events and training calendar for the year which will serve as the direction for activities of the foundation in the year. According to the RIMA Foundation Programme Coordinator Mr. Amuno M, “Although this Calendar encompass majority of events and activities slated for the year, but it does not go to say that our activities will be limited to it, as we plan to run several other JV projects with different local and international organisations in the year”.

He further stated that the time is now for solution providers and practitioners (local & international) in the industry to work with the Foundation for the development of the industry in Africa.

RIMAW & RIMA AWARDS Back to Sheraton, Now October

The Management of RIMA Foundation has announced the relocation of the annual events (RIMAW & RIMA Awards) back to Sheraton Hotels in Lagos (http://www.sheratonlagos.com) in response to the feedback gathered after the 2010 edition of the event which took place at the Welcome Centres & Hotels also in Lagos. Also, affected is the movement of the event dates from the usual month of August to October.

RIMAW 2011 is expected to be bigger and better with more International solution providers expected to be in attendance. According to the programme coordinator, Mr. Amuno Mazino "The 2011 edition will assist participants to reach the RIM Market in Africa speedily and effortlessly, showcasing their products and services, meet and network with users, senior level decision-makers and practitioners in the industry".

RIMA Foundation Professional Training Program for the Month of Novembe

Lagos Nigeria, November 29, 2010

The RIMA Foundation professional training program for the month of November (Assured Records Management (ARM)/ Security Management Program for Records/Information), took place on November 23-24 & 25-26 respectively at the Chams City.

Both classes were anchored by Mr. Smith Tokunbo, an RFK-Network Member and a security consultant based in Lagos. In attendance were participants from First Bank of Nigeria and the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB).

In a chat with the programme coordinator of RIMA Foundation, Mr. Amuno Mazino, he mentioned that the 2011 Calendar for RIMA Foundation Professional Training would be released before the end of December and posted on the Foundation’s homepage.

RIMA Foundation Takes RIM Advocacy to South Africa

Lagos Nigeria, November 8, 2010

The President of RIMA Foundation, Mr. Oyedokun Ayodeji attended the just concluded Archives and Records Management Conference held in Pretoria, South Africa which started on the 3rd and ended on the 5th of November 2010. During his keynote address, he mentioned the several efforts being embarked upon by the RIMA Foundation for the realization of the several initiatives the foundation has been involved in since inception and the need for different stakeholders in Africa to come together to move the Industry forward. Reacting to Mr. Oyedokun’s comments, Dr. Moss Mphalane Makhura Organisers of the annual event, promised to support and ensure that RIMA Foundation gets all the required support to succeed and also suggested that a South Africa branch of the Foundation be established.


The three day conference featured a number of professionals from different parts of Africa including professionals and practitioners from the South African Government.

In a chat with the President of RIMA Foundation shortly after his arrival from South Africa, Mr. Oyedokun express his appreciation to the organisers of the event for the opportunity given to RIMA Foundation to participate at the 2010 edition of the event and said “We look forward to enhancing our partnership, utilizing strategic opportunities to step up RIM advocacy in Africa with organizations and international agencies.

RIMA Foundation has also been invited to participate at the 2011 edition of the Conference.

The third 2011 RIMA Foundation Knowledge Network (RFK-Network) free quarterly training programme took place as scheduled with a good number participants from different organisation in different parts of the country in attendance.


Some of the notable organisations in attendance was Neet Technologies, Blue & Check Technologies and a host of others.

During the programme, a total of ten (10) new RFK-Network Members were inducted into the Network.

The next quarterly training is slated for December 18, 2010.

RIMA Foundation Record another Successful outing during the 2010 RIMAW & RIMA Awards

Sept. 31, 2010

The Records and Information Management Awareness Workshop, Exposition & Awards (RIMAW and RIMA Awards 2010) with the Theme: “Social Network Marketing as a Tool for Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development in Africa” and sub theme: “SIM Card registration Forum: Best Practices Managing Customer Data” took place on the 27th and 28th of August respectively at the Welcome Centre Hotels, International Airport Road, Ikeja Lagos last weekend.


The 2010 event addressed major issues affecting information management and security with definitive answers to growing information management/security needs and challenges in the country with emphasis on data protection & privacy issues (Best practices), the legal
implication(s), budget implication of N6.1billion, duplicity etc.
 

According to Mr.Oyedokun Ayodeji Oyewole, President of RIMA Foundation “the workshop provided attendees with unique opportunities to compare the most comprehensive range of information management and security solutions from all the leading suppliers within and outside of Nigeria” .

The workshop which was declared opened by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy represented by the Director General of the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB), Mr. Uthman Bolaji who also delivered a keynote presentation on “Social Network Marketing as a Tool for Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development in Africa”, followed by a case study on the theme by Uche Chuta, Chief Information Officer, Beezid.com, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Sola Salako, MD/CEO of Purrples Consult, a consumer advocacy agency also presented a paper on Consumer Privacy Issues in SIM Registration at the event. Other papers presented at the event were Records management: Career and business opportunities, Paul Mullon, MD COR Concepts, South Africa and Disaster Recovery by Tokunbo Smith.

The 2010 exhibition had in attendance Busicon Nigeria Limited, FileHold Inc. Canada, Blue & Check Nigeria Limited, Vault Noir, Canada, GIT Law Pavilion , Power Horse, GCS International and . Blood Pressure Control Foundation

The exhibition was opened all day allowing vendors and exhibitors to showcase solutions that integrate business processes, improve productivity and enhances collaboration.

The Awards, which marked the climax of the workshop and exhibition, was presented to deserving individuals and corporate organizations for their contributions towards promoting records and information management in the country, amongst the recipients are VTN (e-payment Solution), Globacom (Glo 1 Submarine cable), Busicon Nig. Ltd (Docuware 5), Mobinatrics Ltd (MOBRIEF/MOBIZ-D),XHS Nig. Ltd, (DocuShare),ThisDay (News on Mobile) and the Lagos state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele (Information Management Personality Award for the Year).

RFK-Network Quarterly Training (QT)

The RIMA Foundation Knowledge Network (RFK-Network) quarterly training programme initial slated for June 19, 2010 took place on Saturday 3rd July at the Nigeria Union of Teachers premises.
